This is the second day I've had it. It hasn't opened up completely but now it's even more closed up than yesterday.

Not really sure. But I do know watch it closely as from what I understand you need to pull them out before they turn to mush.

It may be a sebae anemone, but it's dyed. As in, soaked with yellow dye. Please look up the very detailed care that it will take to nurse it back to health. Oh, and when the dye wears off it will be bleached. When the zozanthelle comes back it'll likely be brown. :(

Good luck.

Like mentioned, to me he looks ok, it's still new to the tank so it may be looking for an ideal spot. Monitor it a couple of days.

There's nothing okay with this anemone. 50% chance it dies before the dye wears off, even under expert care.

Make sure nitrates and such are kept low, feed it small amounts daily, don't blast it with too much light but don't keep it too shaded...

Yeah, I may be new to the forums but have 14 years experience with salt. This is NOT a healthy anemone.

i have seen them tanish/brown/yellow...and from the pics it looks like its under blue-ish LED's (an assumption) so it may appear to look like that atomic yellow color rather than it being dyed. but with your 14yrs of experience with i am sure you would know more than i would. i was just giving my opinion

in any case Jp best of luck with him

Your picture of it today looks like you caught it while it was moving. When my anemones tend to lift their skirts like that and show you an elongated body under it, they usually are preparing to move or are in the process of moving. Based on your pictures your anemone appears further back in your tank today than it was yesterday.

The bright neon yellow on a sebae anemone, no matter the light, tells me it's dyed. Sebae come in tan, green, and sandy yellow. Never bright knock your socks off yellow. Even the OMG ULTRA BAM IN YO FACE btas don't have the all over same color as it's column has. They have areas of less color, and other colors. Sometimes a red or green will be solid, but never like this.

It's truly very sad. 7 plus years or so ago the market was flooded with these guys. I'm assuming that this will be the first of many we'll see in the next few years as the cheap nems are dyed, pushed into the market, and people newer to the hobby get them cause they simply aren't aware that people do this.

It won't get ugly... If you are lucky it will return to a natural coloration which is a whitish tan. It's very possible that it will die from being artificially colored. I would never again shop at the place that sold you it.

And don't think of it as ugly. If you get it to survive that long, it's a huge accomplishment

Don't feel bad if you did get duped, I have been in the hobby on and off for 15 years*** and would of never thought someone would sink to that level to make a few extra bucks.

*** was in the hobby in early 90's and didn't have a heater in my apartment and my tank crashed after only 9 months, kept that bio ball filter for way to long. 7 years ago I had a smaller tank and went on vacation and came back to a mostly dead tank. the heater failed and temps were in the low to mid 60's for about a week. My employees didn't catch it in time. So now I am back at it and been in a year this time. Much easier for me this go around. mainly because of the help I get from reefers and others willing to share there experinces both good and bad. The ones I learn the most from are the bad ones, like me knowing someone with a huge tank and him telling me he doesn't dip any corals. I followed suit as his tank was right in front of me and a true thing of beauty. well I got monti eating nudis and AEFW. So if anyone new reads this please please dip and try to set up a QT. Sorry to ramble
