Is there such a thing as too many wrasses?

I have a 180g mixed reef.

The current fish stock is low.

Two midnight Ocellaris clowns
Yellow flanked fairy wrasse
Swiss guard basslet
Tail spot blenny
And a powder blue tang

I realize that the powder blue can be aggressive and can be removed temporarily until new fish settle in if necessary.

Here is the list of wrasses I want to add.

Melanus wrasse
Pair of potters leopard wrasses
Mystery wrasse
Dusky wrasse and
Radiant wrasse have a 180g mixed reef.

The current fish stock is low.

I love wrasses and I’d love to keep a few in the 180.
I currently keep a leopard wrasse in another established tank and he’s my fattest and favourite fish.

Wrasse "Amature" here, I dont think Mystery Wrasses play nice with other wrasses. I was interested in mixing wrasses and I referred to the two easily found guides at the top of the page. I have included them here and here, both by wrasse "expert" @evolved. I referred to these doing my own research and deciding not to attempt a Mystery Wrasse myself. You can find information, about all the wrasses you mention, in the first link.

my mystery wrasse is very hard on new wrasse additions so I would advise adding it after the others.

Both mystery wrasses and dusky wrasses can be pretty assertive toward other wrasses.

Blennies are kinda cool too but wrasses are #1 for sure

Skip the Mystery Wrasse for sure if it isn't nasty to your other wrasses it will likely polish off any inverts you might have in the tank (including cleaner shrimp). The Leopard Wrasses can be difficult to get to feed and have trouble shipping, so I wouldn't get one unless it has been at your LFS and readily eating for a couple of weeks. The Dusky Wrasse and Melanurus might take issue with eachother given that they are both Halichoeres wrasses and have a very similar color scheme. Have you looked into fairy wrasses?

I agree with mystery's causing a stink. mine is the biggest jerk in my tank but I knew what I was getting into.
one thing I found from experience was fairy's are some of the most beautiful but are seemingly defenceless to any of the more aggressive species and in many cases should not be mixed.

I have kept several wrasses in my 150 gallon mixed reef, and have not had any problems. Your best not to add 2 of the same kind of wrasses to the tank. As was mentioned earlier Mystery Wrasses are very aggressive especially when they get established. I had one for many years and it would kill anything new I put into the tank When I had had enough it took me a month to trap it Good luck and happy reefing
