Is there such a things as too much flow

I recently added a MP40 QD to my two regular MP40. I placed one of my old MP40 on the center back wall of my offset overflow tank that measures 72x18x29 150 gallons. This tank is bare bottom and sps only. I run all my mp40's at 100% reef crest. Is there such a thing as too much flow running them all at 100%? Your flow calculator seems to state so.

for all sps, and bare bottom, I think it'd be hard to have too much flow, as long as its random and changing like vortech pumps do

Too much "direct" flow is not a good idea on corals

For SPS as long as its not direct flow, you should be ok but don't forget about your fish. Not all fish come from high flow areas of the ocean and thus might not respond well to really high flow.

If the water is leaving the tank, you may want to reconsider your flow...

it really depends on what you house in the tank.. my 5ft SPS tank has a Gyre 150 at 80% and MP40 at 60%.. then I put in a few Haddoni carpet and now both run at 40%...

Two Mp60's on that size of a tank would be overkill. I had two Mp40's running at 100% Reefcrest on that same size tank and they did a great job.

i have killed my acros with too much direct flow. Indirect should be enough. also depends if you have substrate ?

I have a 90 gal with gyre 130 mp 40 2 mp10 jebao Wp 40 and l1 pump sand lps sps and every thing happy!!!

Crazy. I have one gyre 150 on a 180 mixed reef....i keep it about 60% any higher and my corals get mad....I even killed some frogspawn that way.

I have both an MP 40 and MP 60 on both ends and 2 MP40s on the back of my 72 x 27 x 24 SPS reef all running on 100% reef crest and everything is thriving. As my colonies have grown and blocked the flow, I have needed to add more to address dead spots. Originally this tank had one MP60 on one end and the 2 MP40 s on the back.
