Is there such thing as overfeeding a scoly???

My scoly is hungry EVERYsingle night. Even during the day when I feed my fish, his little tentacles start to sneak out. So, is there any wrong in feeding it if its hungry? Meaning whenever its tentacles are out? Thanks

There shouldn't be any problem with it. Just remember that they eat in the wild everyday. He'll just be fat and happy!

I'm sure that most people don't feed everyday because they don't want their phosphates and nitrates to rise!

Yeah I could see that. I wonder if its healthier for the tank if you feed often to do mysis or the lps pellets

I have a baby bleeding apple that a buddy gave me. It does the same thing. I've been giving it some spectrum pellets every few days. He seems to be really happy.

Mine eats mysis and table shrimp. I swear it eats it's weight every few days. Are these things jogging around the tank at night?! If not, how exactly are these colorful fleshy rocks burning so many calories?!?

I posted a thread about this not too long ago. I try to feed my LPS, especially the scoly, whenever it's tentacles are out. Sometimes when the tentacles aren't out for a few days, I'll drop a few pellets on it and it will eat those few then really extent out like it's never eaten before. Awesome to watch. As said, just don't let N/P creep up. I haven't seen "growth," just happiness.

Haha right! Maybe they burn em off with their extremely vibrant colors

I disagree. I have 5 scolys for a long time and think if you are feeding it more than 2x week you are pretty much throwing waste in your tank. Remember these animals have a single hole for food coming in, poop going out. They have very simple digestive systems and if you keep feeding it, the last few meals will pile up and come out once the first ones are digested. They have tentacles out but like fish, dont know when to stop eating. Also in the ocean in their natural environment, theres NO WAY they get food everyday. Remember they are fixed on one spot, the chances food comes down the water column and gets down to them having passed by many other moving hungry organisms is small.
Feed them small portions sparingly or the tank water quality will start going downhill

Thankyou! That was exactly what I was looking for. I figure just like an anemone, theres one mouth, and the poop has to come out sometime. Kinda like a donkey. Alway ready to eat even if they are about to explode!
