i think i have TO much flow in 65 frag tank.....
hydir korialla 4 and 3
aqua clear 70
mag 7 for return

theres lots of lil air bubbles ik they dont hurt anything and im not to worried about looks its only a frag tank! but is that TO much flow for zoas?:squigglemouth:

I think the only way to have too much flow for Zoas is if they look like they won't open fully. I have read that for optimum growth you want them to be moving just not closed. If the poylps are open you are good to go.

Direct flow is more often the problem than 'too much' flow. Some may not like heavy flow, where others might, so that'll be something to watch.

Like the others say if the coral are doing good.
One of our tanks are a 120G 48"x24"x24" it has.....
-Mag 18 Return
-Mag 12 Closed Loop
-Modded maxijet 1200
-Vortech @ full blast on reefcrest mode.

I personally think it's overkill but the corals like it.

The more movement the better IMO. But there comes a point where it just gets ridiculous and you all know when that happens. If the coral opens completely without being bothered, then youre doing good.

Keep it random flow too

Yes, my ricordea does not like to much flow. They will not open all the way with to much.

Doesn't sound like too much for me. It all depends on how your flow is directed though. I have a 125 w/ 3 gen 2 vortechs, 1 maxijet mod, 1 koralia 2, and 1 tunze nano wave box.

my old 58 had 4 6000 on controller and eheim 1262 return

in the past i had a 29 gallon with 2 tunze 6060

hard corasl would be ok but anything else it might be too much

sweet thanks guys! the k4 and k2 are up high on the tank i might move the k2 down a lil bit to create a more random flow

Hey Ocean, in my 65 i have a koralia 3, 2 and a 1200 gph return pump dumping back in. Just wanted to give a comparison.

I have 2 Tunze 6025's and a maxijet 400 and a hang on the back filter in a 29gal. And i keep all LPS and zoas.

+1 on this...

my 28g JBJ is equipped with a Vortech MP40 Gen 2 and I think the minimum is 1000gph... the flow is very spread out so it creates a very nice movement on the water... I see no dead spots in my tank now thanks to the Vortech... :)
