Is there the same debate over there in the US?

Hi all

Over here in the Uk for the last six months there has been a massive debate on the UK forum I'm on about these chinese 120w LED light units and if they are any good. Now I'm in the corner of loving them as I have three above my DT. Does anyone use them over here.

They are non branded but use bridgelux LED's with 90 degree lenses. Cost $160 shipped from China off the bay

I don't think the Led against T5 argument will ever stop really. Each to their own but for i'm defo in favour of LED's

I agree. People are still debating LEDs in general. Some find their corals brown out and don't grow well, others find they have great coral color and growth. Maybe it's a difference in engineering between fixture models, maybe it's the coral morphs being kept under the lights, or something else entirely. Things definitely haven't been settled.

There is a thread on them going on right now on R2R, they are the Reefbreeders Value fixtures from the looks of them. I have 2 over my 120g and love them.

If they are like the one I have for evaluation they only put out 200PAR and use 145 watts.

A 45 Cree XT-E Fixture will put out 460 PAR and only use 118 watts.

They will grow coral if close enough like in the Pic but given the quality of the fans and driver I wounder how long they will last.

I hear that all the time^ how long will they last? IMO if they work who cares, with the price of bulbs, if they last three years they pay for themselves. The $400-800 for a "good" fixture by whoever sets those standards is crazy though I often wonder how these sellers make any money. I'm in for $135 shipped for my bridgelux with maxwellen drivers and wouldn't trade it for the world. That said I plan to upgrade the drivers simply for controlling and am going to add 4 more leds simply because the upgrade allows it. The parts to replace or upgrade fixtures are so cheap and easy to do, its almost dumb not do do so

2 on my 120g. Plan on getting the custom layout ones on Aliexpress. So instead of B/W, I can get different spectrums.

Lots of variables...

They all grow Coral But do they make the coral look good?

Evolution uses similar LEDs with great Look Results they are a bit more than $135 Shipped.

At Least theirs give the corals a good look

Caveat emptor

If you are paying $75 extra a year in electricity the Cost Benefit Analysis is clear short term v long term.

Your choice....

At least we are not talking MH v LED CBA

All I'm saying is these cheap Chinese leds and fixtures work. I may only have a bc29 but its 20" deep and the growth and color I am getting out of once brown sps amazes me everytime I look at the tank. Needless to say I'm a fan lol
