looking at purchasing a fluval spec 2.6 gallon tank for my wife to have as a zoa garden for her spa. I don’t think I’ll use sand to make it a little easier for her to clean and do water changes. Also don’t think I will have any fish as it’s extremely small.
 
Not putting sand is not a bad idea. Actually a lot of people do that.
 
I agree many people go bar bottom these days it’s personal preference and as you say, it should make it easier for water changes etc.
 
Bare bottom for life. Also trying to avoid it because I think n03 and p04 will be a little more tricky to manage in such a small tank and don’t want stuff hiding in spots rotting away
