Is this a black widow anemone?

I know it looks like a lot of blue in the reflection on the water, but it is daylight spectrum.

This reminded me of my pistol shrimp who hated gobies. Hated them with the fire of 1000 suns. After 3 years I saw enough of him to get a positive ID. Not a pistol shrimp, a snapping shrimp, alpheus armatus. But mis-selling a $30 shrimp is way less offensive than what they do in the anemone game apparently.

@TheStrangler
Your anemone is under stress right now so it will not have the best coloration. Optimize his condition first then you can see. black widow has the significant “web” instead of a lot of green. And of course the red coloration.
I’ve never seen my black widows turn green, even with stress. A few years back, I left an exterior door open next to my aquarium, and my temperature in my tank plummeted, my enemies never changed color to green. Not disagreeing with you, just letting the original post know my experience.

FYI if you live anywhere near Lebanon Maine, I’ll give you one for free. Pick up only

That is what I thought I said. Black widow has the web instead of a lot of green. Light color and stress do a lot of wild things. I think @Reef Stu should let the seller know, but reserve final decision until the anemone recovered from the shipping stress.
Good luck.

I don’t think we are saying the same OrionN. No green in a black widow anemone, is what I’m saying. Respectfully disagree. Cheers though

The mantle should be black and white and red under blue light. That is why it’s called a black widow, I assume.

Yes green can be in striations but not the tentacles. Black widows have always been black/ dark purple with white or green striations and dark red/red tentacles.

I still think the original post got the wrong anemone though.

No they don’t change they just add more names to slight variations. Trying to add more value to nothing much different. I miss the early 2000s where everyone shared frags and you rarely had to buy anything for more than a 10$ bill. Now everyone wants to break even or make money on frags. Rant over
