I just got my first Zoas!!! So excited, but I noticed this strange crusted off-colored cone shaped thing coming off one of my frags.

They’re still In the bag so it’s hard to get a picture. I just want to know if I can try to crush it while it’s still attached to the frag with a pair of tiny tweezers? Try to physically remove it after a dip? I don’t want to introduce this to my tank, it’s 100% not apart of the Zoa.

I’ll try to get a better picture once I take them out but it’s gonna be an hour here. They came in very cold water temps.

If it is a hard crusted shell, a little purplish in color it is a vermitid snail! And if so, yes, remove it, but do so from the base, otherwise it will grow back.

A vermitid snail??? Wow, I’ve heard of them but I thought they’d actually be large :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

Okay thank you so much!

You gained a follower I see you everywhere, thanks for all the help you’ve given around the forums!!!!

Well thank you! And Absolutely! I love this forum! There are so many good people on here. I am always happy to help. So is that what your snail looks like? Did you get a good pic of it yet? They are actually pretty small.

It looks like an antennae sticking out of it almost. Whatever it is, has grown or burrowed almost completely into the entire skeleton.

When I shine a light on it, it sucks back up. I’ll try to get a flashlight and get a better photo.

if it has a spiral shell its probably vermitid, I like to get a small flat head screw driver and just chip it off whole :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes: just be careful to not hit the zoas, goodluck with your reef!

I put them in the sand after a Thorough high dose Coral ex bath… and they’re already trying to open…. But the way my Nass just obliterates them on his war path is so depressing :face-with-spiral-eyes: :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:
