This appeared overnight and is about the size of a small egg. It's white and stringy and appeared where my clown fish hang out. I've never seen it this way before which is why I am asking. Before when they laid eggs I just saw very small brown dots everywhere... but this is totally different.

Any opinions would be appreciated :) The clowns are a mated pair over 10 years old.

I thought sponge as well but this was dry rock and it appeared overnight from nothing to this. I don't see how a sponge could move that fast or where it came from. I also don't know how it could be clown eggs as the ones they laid before were little dots. Very strange. Thanks for the replies all :)

Sorta looks like that but is completely white and so far no where else in the tank. I haven't seen my tang pay it any attention yet but I will keep an eye out. Thanks!

once it gets some light it should pick up some color. even coralline is white when it first starts out.

The location is under a ledge it's not getting any direct light.. pretty much just in shadows.. my pair of clownfish sleep there at night.. which is the only reason I had thought some type of egg sack.. but who knows if it starts to color up I'll take an updated photo. Where it's at I'm not sure how I could remove it safely there is no way for me to remove the rock.

you could always burn it out with h2o2. cut it as short as you can, suck up some h2o2 in a syringe then spray it directly at the base of the algae. best to turn off all flow in the tank when youre doing this. leave all flow off for a bout 5-10 minutes to allow the h202 to burn the algae then turn the flow back on. its best if you remove the rock but its not always an option. but its not really bad to have it either. if it is blue ochtodes itll help clean your water of excess nutrients.

Thanks. I'll see how it does and if it colors up any where it's at :)

Well whatever it is has now doubled in size and is growing up from underneath the rock to the side of the rock.

haha I can't take the rock out without destroying my scaping. It's the bottom rock. I will get one tonight.
