So I just turned my little live rock around that's been in my new tank for a month and found something on the other side. This rock is plaqued with hydroids and had a paly that has been growing large and bright green on the other side but when I turned it today I noticed this white thing on the other side. It reminds me of a dead paly. Or is it something else?

I am going with sponge.

Looks like a sponge. Just wait and find out!

Hmm, I was debating on getting rid of this small rock as someone told me its not good because of all the hydroids on it and that the green paly isnt great. Im trying to keep it seperated from the rest of my rocks and hoping the hydroids wont spread for now

The Hydroids will spread regardless if you isolate the rock.

That's my fear and what makes me consider removing this rock since it's small and the life on it isnt too amazing. It would probably be easier to do that then to try and kill off the hydroids that are literally right next to the paly

Yeah, i'll probably toss it. What's the best way to throw it out because of the paly? Dont wanna cause any toxic damage. Its weird though that this is the only rock that all my snails have been continuously congregating on

To be honest, if I had experience in reefing and new how to frag and deal with corals, I would try removing the paly and keeping it. But I don't know what I'm doing lol. The coral place near me told me they could remove it for me, but I dont know if they would be willing to reattach it to a plug or just toss it. Its encrusted on the rock so I imagine it wont be easy to take off for someone like me who has never dealt with corals before
