He retracts, closes up quickly like a feather duster but I just don’t know for sure....stuck on a snail shell.

Picture is too blurry to tell, can you get a better one?

No unfortunately, I took the picture a few days ago and I have no idea where the snail is now, we literally have hundreds of them in our reef.

It looks like a dull looking zoa but closes way too fast to be one

Here is one that looked similar to that one but it’s not feathery. It closes fast too...faster than I’ve seen a zoa close. What do you think it might be?

It looks like a feather duster.
My snail still have picked up feather dusters. So cool!

Looks more like hydroids which doesn’t surprise me .
They filter feed and favor brine shrimp and in numbers can or may sting coral
Starving them will stop them but hard to accomplish when moving around on a snail

Could be barnacle. I have several ceriths with barnacles on them. They close fast. If you don’t see the characteristic tube of a feather duster my money is on barnacle

Tube worms are common on snails and have a fan which captures food that looks like a miniature duster

I know this is an old thread… but…I have a snail that has these too. Interestingly, I’ve only had one for awhile and then just recently, I noticed a second one and very small third one. The snail shell seems to be getting overcome with this rock like material. It’s building up off the shell. Also, they’re different colors. One is tan and white, the other is white with an orange center. They both open and close more like Christmas tree worms to me, but don’t have the same fan structure. I have other better pictures. I’ll post if I can find them.

Looks like Corynactis Anemone

I could see where you’re getting that from the picture, but the they don’t have tentacles. With a better picture, you can see the radiole and the ‘feather’ part of it. Also, when they close, it looks a lot more like a feather duster than an anemone. I had both over the years.
