I have had the tank running for nearly a year now. The tank is a fish only and as a beginner I made the mistake of not quarantining anything, but luckily nothing bad has appeared (yet). Until last week the tank has been lit by cheap florescent bulbs, but last week I got in a LED to start playing with corals. I have always seen a small oddly colored bump on one of my snails, but since the new light has been on it has started growing.

To me it has the shape of a feather duster worm. It also has a long "spider web" like string out the top wiping around in the current.

Vermatid snail is what’s on the back of your other snail. They can spread pretty fast but for the most part are harmless. They do release a web which can irritate other corals though.

Remove it they can spread really fast if you feed heavy and the nets they put out can be irritating.
You should be able to scrape it off the snails shell.

Last night I broke the head off it and trashed it. Today once home I will remove the snail and try to fully remove it with a knife.

I had a friend hold all my corals when I moved recently.

His tank was full of vermited snails and some came back to me.

About 20 or so a began spreading rapidly.

Breaking off the tube sometimes works and sometimes it leaves the snail behind and it builds a new tube.

I went a bought a new pair of clean needle nose pliers. Then crushed and removed each one

Now about 2 months Snail free.

Great! When I get home I will completely remove it and do a search for any others. Its odd though, I noticed it when i got the snail months ago, but it didn't begin to grow until I got my new light.
