This is the second coral I have purchased. The LFS did not tell me much about it, but it was pretty so I chose it. I bayer dipped it after prying it off their plug and then glued it to a new one. I have fed it bribe shrimp once per day for three days, but it is very tricky and only 2 or 3 polyps have eaten each time. Any tips for this little guy?

I would say yes, looking at the base. The base look like one of mine.

Looks like an alveopora to me. They tend to have 12 tentacles per polyp. You might want to count yourself to be sure. Gonis have 24 per polyp btw.

I think i see more than 12 fingers per polyp but i cant truly tell... so id say goni

Goniopors are one of the more difficult LPS corals to keep alive for very long. The green ones are notably the more difficult of the bunch. Goniopora probably won't eat brine shrimp. They need extremely fine particles, like goniopower. Although photosynthetic, they require lower light and flow. Supplemental feeding, at least twice a week is generally required to keep them healthy.

When I got mine it would never open up. Started feeding oyster eggs and now its reaching out nicely. I got some gonipower on the way too as I've heard great things about it

After work today I found some Gonipower in town and gave it a feast. It seemed to like it I guess, but there was a lot of slime until I turned the pumps back on. Is this normal when it eats?

Sometimes when I feed oyster eggs it'll it'll close up and slime a bit but usually comes out strong after about 30min. I target feed mine with a Turkey baster so I might be blowing it too hard

Thanks for the advice everyone. This coral is a roller coaster of change. Some morning it appears that something has eaten half of it, but an hour later it looks perfect. Half the time when feeding it, the polyps retreat and the other half they seem to be more excited. It seems to be doing well. I gave up on brineshrimp and use gonipower only now. It is amazing that the polyps can completely retract into the flesh if the want to.
