Kinda hard to tell. Looks kind of like a brisle worm. Good member of the clean up crew, but they pack a sting. Can you get a better picture?

yay! i was hoping it was a bristly. should i try transfer him out of my fuge and into the DT?

I would say that if it is in the sump, chances are you already have some in the display.

my thinking was that it might have hitchhiked in the ball of chaeto i bought. my whole setup is only about 1 month old

Did you start with live rock? Could have hitchhiked in on that. Either way, it couldn't hurt to transplant it into the display. Unless you get stung of course. :)

ahhh yes, i did buy a couple small chunks of live rock just to help kick things off faster

My thought is if you can remove it then remove it they might be in your display tank but getting rid of them can't hurt

I just opened up my cabinet to check on the Chaeto again and theres like 6 now!
OH LAWD THEY MULTIPLYIN' :eek::eek::eek:

Aight heres a better pic.

If they’re in the sump, they won’t harm anything. They are a good part of the clean up crew. And even if you remove all of them, you aren’t getting rid of them. Just be careful when removing chaeto.

Yes don't remember them being harmful however if you handle any of your rock you can be stung I'm sure they do clean up detritus

They’re some of the best cleaners available - and they’re free! I’ve never been stung by one but I don’t handle random things in my tank. Bristle worms typically are nocturnal anyway. If handling chaeto, just use tweezers pull out and cut off overgrowth.

Okay im 99% sure these are fireworms. under a USB microscope i can see they have white tuffs with small red gill filaments at the base of them
