I know that's why I want to go get it. I want to have something to grow into within the next half year and feel like passing this up would be stupid. It has a sticker on it with all the IM serial numbers etc. So definitely seems legit.
I was going to suggest to check for the serial number. A quick email to IM and I am sure they will be able to let you know the build date.
Is there like a recommended age for a tank that it's no longer good? Or is it good so long as the seals are good?
Not really. It depends on the tank and how it was kept/stored. It's $75 IM tank so go grab it up before you regret it.

No offense, but you think that even though the tank was previously sealed by professionals that seal tanks every day with industrial tools... that you and a caulk gun full of hardware store silicone will provide a higher quality seal? You may want to re-think that.
One side of it has been knicked a few times by cleaning so rather be safe than sorry. I'm not breaking the actual seams of the tank apart, just the inner bead of silicone and redoing that portion. Pretty confident I can neatly reseal that with a solid bead of silicone. People do it all the time with no issues.
Also going to purchase aquarium silicone, not generic silicone, although there's not really a problem with that anyway.
the tank is also an older tank so probably at least 5 years old. would you not reseal a 5 yr old tank with knick on the inner silicone from hard cleaning? tank still holds water but i feel like silicone peeling in small spots probably isnt a good thing long term even if its fine now.

yeah i feel like i should do it just for the peace of mind. i work construction and apply caulk all the time, i think i can lay some tape and pull some clean beads.It ain't rocket science. You got this
