Is this a hammer?

Hi guys, I want to get your opinion on what I was told was a Hammer a few months ago at my Lfs. I have since noticed the ends of the polyps are not singular. Instead, many of the polyps have more than 1 polyp branching the main. What do you think?

Its a frogspawn. I have one like that. They tend to look like hammers but with multiple polyps. Their care requirements are similar though.

I feel it looks more like a frogspawn as well but i can see some polyps with a hammer like shape, just not completely the same. I was wondering if it was some sort of hybrid. My LFS is usually pretty knowledgeable. All they deal in is reef livestock/supplies.

It is. I have 4 hammers and 3 frogspawns.

Here is a pic, not that good but it’s very similar to your coral and darker in color. First pic is of the 2 frogspawns and all other are hammers.

Originally when I purchased it I didn’t give it a second thought. The polyps all seemed singular in nature with some of the shape you’d expect from a hammer. I always thought frogspawn had quite a few polyps branching from each main stalk. Always kind of reminded me of a octopus arm with all the suckers. Lol. But as the piece in the first pic grew the difference became more noticeable.

That is very interesting. I wonder if these are naturally occurring or lab grown. Either way, you have a healthy looking Hammer/Frogspawn/Octospawn.
