Is this a Midas Blenny?

What’s up guys, a few weeks ago I bought what my lfs told me was a Midas Blenny. I knew his color wasn’t that gold/peachy color but they said he just hadn’t colored up yet. I was wondering what you guys think?? And is this normal for this fish.

I can’t say for a fact but I’m leaning towards it not being a Midas. My Midas had never gotten that dark before. The darkest mine ever gets it a dark blue/purplish color.
When you say is this normal for the fish, are you referring to the color or the fact that it is laying down?

I’m referring to the color. This guy perches all over the tank lol. Yeah I’m kinda sad though cause he looks more like a bicolor blenny without the bicolor. I probably shouldn’t have been so excited to buy

Midas can loose some color short term, but not that much color. Id concur that its prob a combtooth

dang that bums me out cause I really wanted a golden blenny lol he’s a cool fish though with good personality. I just paid like 2x as much as I should have ‍

This one does get kool neon light blue patterns on its face. Kinda like future war paint. Lol.
Had a good personality mine did but would scrape his teethe on my arm or hand everytime I went in the tank and would scare me so much my hand would jerk lol! Miss that fish I do.
Guess you could always charge someone for an adoption and try and get the one u nwanted.

Fwiw I told.one of my co workers about some new fish I wasn't quite sure I liked and she said flush em. Lol. Gosh.

We have had two in two different tanks, and yes they would get darker for a short period of time, but always golden yellow/peach

Yeah he gets those blue markings on his face! Cool fish. Maybe someday I’ll get that Midas haha

I’m going to disagree with everyone else here and say that it looks like a Midas to me. Mine was the classic gold color when I got him, but in my tank he changed dramatically a few times and is now settled on a brownish color most of the time. When I had an enormous patch of macro, he would hide in it and get green stripes, but since I got a rabbit fish who literally ate every last bit of it, he has moved on to a different color scheme. I think the Midas have a distinct face though and the picture you posted looks dead on to me. I’m not an expert by any means but I have experienced first hand the transformation of colors this fish can pull off. Here’s a pic of him pretending to be caulerpa.
