I have had this snail since the first few weeks of my tank (about five months now). It’s gotten big, but lately it has been latching onto my new astrea snails and I have to pull it off. The tank has had trochus snails, and the only time I ever seen it on one of those was the one that I assumed died.

The astrea snails are healthy and doing their thing, I’m just worried this nassarius is not a nassarius that people know as the opportunistic omnivores and instead is a predatory variety.

Looks more like a whelk snail and would go after others

This is what I was leaning to as well, but I'm new to the salt side of tank world and wanted some extra opinions. I have a second "nassarius snail" but it is much smaller and has a smaller shell and only comes out of the sand when the LRS hits the sand bed. This one when it was smaller used to do the same but the past month it's been out 24/7 prowling around the tank picking up food remains as it goes.

That isn't sound like it's a Nassarius snail. They are scavengers so they wouldn't attack other snails.

The snail has been re-homed in a friend's sump for a few weeks now. :) He has another whelk snail in that sump and confirmed it was a whelk (lacks the shine of the tulip).
