From my small amount of research, people have claimed that rock/flower anemones can NOT be a host for clownfish because the clowns do not have a proper mucous coat or are "tough" enough and will be killed when they try to host in the anemone.
About 4 or so months ago my male maroon clown began playing at the foot of the rock anemone, then about a month ago he would touch the tentacles and then swim away, but now he is hosting like a boss. He will lay on his side in the anemone, feed it,clean it,etc.
Is this unusual? I am not really sure as I have only had 2 clownfish-anemone pairs previous to this, condy & occ. and bta & maroon.
Here is a 10 second video for proof.
Btw turn the volume down, it is a little loud.
