Is this a peanut??

I have this thing growing out of a dead snail shell.

I was about to pitch it, but decided to leave it and look it up. It's kinda greenish and looks like a Q-tip on the end.

I heard its a very very slow growing algae that doesnt pose any harm, i have 1 growing on my rock.
