Not too sure what these are. They are really small maybe about 4mm tall. I am thinking they might be aiptasia?:squigglemouth: Maybe some baby feather dusters? :squigglemouth: Sorry for the bad pics. Had a hard time getting the camera to focus on the rock in my tank. Need some practice with macro settings. Camera would focus but wouldnt take the pic unless I moved back form the tank. Also caught my mocha misbars zooming by so figured I would throw him up here as well : )

Thanks for looking!

Sorry couldnt figure out how to edit. The suspects in question are hanging out just below the big purple shroom on the sponge rock : )

Those are hydroids. They can irritate corals and spread around. Pretty difficult to kill off, too. If it's possible, I'd just pull off the corals and toss the rock outside.

Yes they are bad...hydroids. Use kalk paste or AiptasiaX. Take the rock out of the tank if possible for treatment. A blow torch will take care of them too.

cool thanks for the ID guys. The rock is my QT tank and has a few encrusting sponges and mushrooms on it. I will probably just snip the shrooms and toss the rock.

If you can, toss the rock. :) hydroids can populate quickly and sting.

Looks like feather duster.
Do u have a feather duster in the tank?

It's just a single rock that i just got. It's currently living in my qt. I thought it was a feather duster too but after the lights went out last night I was checking the tank out with a flashlight and a few feather dusters had come out of their tubes. They were much different looking than the hydroid. Seemed like the hydroids were all tucked in for the night also.

Def. hydroids, I have the same in my sump currently....... And no to Aptasia X, if you don't get them just right in a month you'll have 10-15 more colonies spread around ;) IMO ;) Same goes for Aptasia FYI, it does take some practice to get a kill shot unless you get lucky ;)

Kalk paste has work wonders for me with pests like this, aiptasia, numerous hydrozoans, vermatid snals, the list goes on. You gotta make the paste very think and spread it over the infected areas. Do not miss a single one, wait a few months, and they should be dead.

Def hydroids. I have a buddy that had them pretty bad, he herd somewhere that long spine urchins will eat them. He bought three little ones, and from what he says, they are eating them. Has anyone else herd this before?

Cool maybe I will try an experiment with the urchins in the qt tank. What's a good fish to keep in there long term with the urchin and hydroids. Maybe I will keep it going indefinitely so need a hearty fish that doesn't mind solitude :D
