When my nutrients were reading 0ppm for N and P for a week and not ncreasing with heavy feed, I was certain this was dinoflagellates.

Then, no dinos happened; well not the bad kind at least!

Is this a phytoplankton bloom?

It only reproduces when the lights are on. It’s green. When I clean the glass it goes cloudy again within an hour.

It doesn’t grow in the rocks or sand. My sump is in a similar, less worse condition as the lights are automatic when I open the door.

I set the tank up 3 months ago with dry rock, live sand. I put my old live rock in there for 1.5 months to seed the dry rock then removed it at a small piece per week. I have marine pure balls in the sump.

Dang, that's cool lol. I've been dosing RN live Phyto for months and never had them reproduce to the point it was visible to my eye.

Maybe you can start your own little clam nursery :p

Have you confirmed its not Dino's with a Microscope? Diatoms?

Bacterial bloom?
No, I don’t have access to a microscope. I’m pretty sure it’s not dinos.

It’s bright green, diatoms are mainly brown.

It’s not bacteria as it isn’t really forming a biofilm, it’s more like a mass of cells sedimenting on the glass.

My corals are loving it though! Polyps hanging out everywhere. Shame I can’t get any photos through the soup!!
