Saw this today new maxspect dc pump. Is it a turbine or a pump? lol

Looks just like what dad had on his F-4, if only dad was a pilot and had an F-4. :p . But on mechanical art alone,I think it would be better on a desk or shelf instead of in a sump.

After working on Aircraft and aircraft jet engines for 30 years, I can assure you it’s not a turbine. It honestly looks like a child's toy.

This is a turbine engine:

Oooh, they went with Neptune orange ..... how original!

@Jeff@CoralVue may jump in here with the specifics, but I believe CoralVue is the North American distributor for Maxspect.

This is correct, the only company Coralvue has there hands in is Reef Octopus. Every other company they are merely a North American Distributor for.

Though the exterior design looks like a turbine. Thats where it ends.
In the end its just a pump like everyother pump we currently use.

There using different terminology but its still a DC controller.

Just like in the lighting industry, we used to have magnetic ballasts, then ELECTRONIC ballasts, and now that people are sick of changing ballasts the LED world changed the terminology from ballast to Driver.
But in the end is is the same.
Yes a bit different in technology but the same in operation.
Ballast's take lower voltages 120-277 and converts it to a higher voltage.

Drivers convert 120 Volts AC, to lower voltage DC.

In the end both ballast and drivers are either buck or boost devices.
