How concerning is this?

IMG_4974.jpeg

Finally picked up a new tank, and the rim is totally separated from the glass on one corner.

I waited 2 months for a seapora tank (the one I saw in store had beautiful silicone). I felt confident in the quality. Was quoted 2 week wait which turned 2 months and never got fulfilled..

The owner kept urging me to get the marine land. I finally caved instead finding someone else to order it…

The quality looks no where close, sloppy silicone, the rim is twice the size (or maybe that’s all bigger tanks since the one I saw was a 44 and this is a 65g) — But the separated rim?? I would not have left the store with it if I didn’t order it, and keep trying to tell myself I’m just being paranoid about quality.

It's probably structurally okay, but if you're unhappy with the build I would not have accepted it and would have wanted a properly finished item or my money back.

Any time a brace isn't as it should be I would be concerned. Especially with the cost of tanks these days.

Doesn’t the rim actually have to support the glass, isn’t that the point.

I didn’t even know if that was an option, I figured if I special ordered it I would have to take it. I also didn’t notice til I got home with it. Instant regret not looking it over but assumed better quality.

The tank wasn’t too bad compared to the equipment. The rim looks bulky and cheap (which I figure is a fair trade off for price).

But the gap? I’m so upset I didn’t see it in store, but I’m sure he would have told me it’s fine. I just don’t know what to think.

Such a big build up waiting, and just totally bummed and not knowing what to do.

If it were me I would just fill the gap with silicone and put it in the back corner. If it bothered me though I would deal with it now. Everything in this hobby tends to get replaced or upgraded periodically the exception being the actual tank.

Hello, not here to say it's ok or it will blow up tomorrow, but this is typical of cheaper aqueon and marineland aquariums built today. If you go to Petco 1/2 off sales you have to inspect a lot of tanks to get a good fitting frame. I found that the persons name that built it is on the bottom glass and found poorly built ones were made by the same persons and better built ones by another.

Trim is fine... unless the glass has a physical crack or some other form of impact damage, i wouldn't let it bother you.

Although i think marineland tanks are a bit over priced compared to a aqueon on petco you can get on sale for 50-70% off, which is bascially the same thing.

That’s kinda why we went for the bigger tank, was going to go smaller but figured for its space I wouldn’t be replacing it.

Now going over it, the tank walls aren’t even perfect 90, like the back extends past the sides a smidge. I’m just kicking myself for not going over it better in store but idk if he woulda kept it anyways. Or if I’m just overthinking. I also can’t afford for it to burst over a stupid detail

Don't think it was tooo special order.....looks like standard Marineland tank...
If not happy, just return it.....
Not special order, just fulfillment order. I wanted a seapora tank and waited two months, finally caved for the marine land because he could get it quicker and the quality difference seems noticeable when the lfs spent that two months telling me they’re superior. I mean do you think he’d take it back? I doubt any fish store would want to get stuck with a large tank

this is all I know....
Connecticut State Department of Consumer ProtectionIf there is no policy posted, you may return any new, unused item to the store with a proof of purchase within seven calendar days, and get a cash refund on a cash sale, or a credit to your account on a credit sale.

Its upto you.....I work hard for my money and when I buy things, if its not 100% what its supposed to be, I return it.

The trim is fine - ugly bit fine. I would not give it a second thought from a safety standpoint. Aesthetics.. that is up to you.

This. /endthread

The glass looks okay impact wise but now nitpicking, it’s not even 100% square. The back glass sticks out further than the sides, one of the from is 90* on top but off on the bottom. Maybe I’m just being paranoid? I got it cheap so I know quality wouldn’t be 100% but even my 10g seems more proper than this?

I wanted the seapora, I saw them and they looked clean. The lfs assured me it’s a great cheap tank. I just don’t know what to think of it.

Seems most people are unphased by the rim, which is a little reassured.

I would definitely take it back. It seems like you’re really unhappy with the quality. Explain that you did not notice the frame gap. Its going in your home not the LFS’s home

Quality is one thing, but I’m nervous about it busting. Not to familiar with tanks but I guess I did not expect the gaps. I mean it’s practically the cheapest piece of equipment I got out of everything but the one thing that can do total water damage.

It's fine, as others have said. However, I do not think you are fine with it. It's not the tank you really want and then the trim and tank are off kilter. This will probably eat at you, and you will not fully enjoy it, even if others say they would use it.

Take it back, don't worry about the LFS and if they will be stuck with it. It's your hard money, get what you want and don't settle. This hobby, hell, many hobbies are too expensive to not get something to your liking.

Is there another LFS you can order from? I'd drive 2-3 hours to pick up a tank.

I noticed while nitpicking the sides of the glass are not perfectly aligned.. like the back sticks out a smidge more than the sides. And the front the top is square but then it gets off aligned — Is that also more aesthetic than safety?
