Hey SFF, I'm sure P3FE will appreciate the link and it sounds like you are learning about sps yourself which is great! However, I also think it is important to note for the OP that the reason his sps are not doing well, is NOT because the sps are receiving par of 280. that is adequate (although for some species not 'ideal') for most sps.

its food for thought and somtimes wise to consider all the parameters.
question for you, if you browse those links many of the sps are at 560 to 1500 par.(and there's a lot of par lists for species as well), so 280 seems very very low. and that's at the top of his rock not at the coral. thoughs?

Do you make your own water with RO/DI? Or do you buy your water already made? if so, I wouldn't trust it. Also you should check for stray voltage with an ohm meter. Wouldn't hurt to have your LFS double check your parameters but from what I see, your water chemistry is good.

280 par is not too low for SPS. If this is a new piece you might have two much flow or light. If the type of lighting is changed some SPS may take time to adjust. Do you see PE when the light is off?

I make my own water, and Im not worried about Par, specially with LEDs, If anything as I stated at the beginning of this thread Im worried about to much light. I really think the salt Im using has something to do with my issue, every time I do a water change Im carbon dosing without wanting to carbon dose and with the ALK at 8.5 is causing ALK burn on this guys. I know it sounds crazy but after running out of ideas thats the only thing I can come up with. Im going to switch salts and feed a little more to see what happens, I will let you guys know how it goes.

its not too much. its not enough. the photosynthetic animal dies in spots and algae /cyano grows on the spots to feed on the rotting flesh. its not bleaching. Its dying from lack of light. 280 is the top of the rock, its less where you have the corals.
A simple test is but one on the top of the rock. SPS are high light corals. 280 is not high nor med. yea itll work for some but...
Ive been killing sps for a year now and have finally had sucess by increasing the amount of light.
I post some highly graphic pics in a second.

Yea still ugly but the flesh has been restored on well over half of the stick and the polyps are now glowing under the actinic

I don't have a problem with cyano. I do know that people that run carbon dose tanks run their ALK very low like in the Mid 7s to prevent ALK burn on their SPS. I was using the Bioactiv salt just because Iwanted to try something new, I never intended to run an ULNS or carbon dose anything, but unintentionally I ended up with a very low nutrient system.

It looks to me either something ate it or stung it. I would keep an eye on it, make sure it doesn't get worse, if not don't worry about it. I don't think it's light or water problems.

Sorry spoke too soon before I saw the other pics. You need to check for flatworms. That's what it looks like to me. Bayer works great to treat. Twice a week for 6 weeks.
