Is this a thing for UV?

Wondering if this is something that actually works...it just seems like a terrible idea to openly blast UV in a sump like that...

Are you sure that is a real UV light? I don’t think anything that truly kills parasites or algae would be exposing the light to a human’s eyes.

I say thumbs down.

I was thinking that but just got back into the hobby a year ago after being away for 6 years so figured I'd ask. Maybe this is how you make Hulk fish? :p
 
Welcome to R2R! Yes, some UV lights are sold like that. No, they are not safe for your eyes. If you get creative there are ways to use them, but I'd recommend paying more and getting one of the other options that doesn't have the light exposed to reduce eye risk.
 
Perhaps not the same wavelength as this but we look for lights that emit UV as well for our corals and they are not good for eyes long term either.
