Hi!!

I spotted this critter while making some pictures of my newly bought Trumpet extending its tentacles at night.

Is this a vermetid?

If it is, I know I should eliminate it. What is your method of choice for removing it?

Looks like a feather duster that is starting to poke its crown out.

I’d say vermited… you’ll know when you feed the tank or stir up the sand and a web comes out.. if confirmed just super glue over the tip and it will starve to death.. unless you can can down there to remove the entire tube and or smash it

Looks like vermitid to me. They multiply like wildfire. My tank became infested what seemed like overnight. I have thousands. If they get beneath encrusting coral, they will poke right through. I just bought a big batch of bumblebee snails which supposedly eat vermitid.

Thanks for all the replies. Vermetid or not, I removed it from the tank and discovered I actually had an infestation. I scraped everything off with a stationary/paper scalpel and I'm hoping for the best since it was only two days in my tank.

Since I'm new to reefs I didn't think much of these things attached to the coral, the marine environment has so many small criters...

Well, from what I know, they live in that base. You should take that off too or they're going to build a new tube.

Put a dab of super glue over the entrance. That kills them since they can't break their tunes open they can't get out and die from lack of oxygen.
