hi R2R. This is my first post to the forum and I have been a reefer for 1yr now. This lps has been bothering me as I can't get a proper ID for it. Please help

This is under 10k. If this is a watermelon, is there a fancy name that it goes by?

There is a good chance it is one, does it have a green rim? Also I would say no to the fancy name unless you bought it with one... You could name it yourself.

it doesn't have a green rim. it does have scattered pink dots around the eyes. It was sold to me as open brain coral. then by chance I stumbled across a similar looking coral in another lfs. The difference between the one I saw at the Lfs and mine is that it was totally purple while mine is purple body with green eyes with pink dots around the eyes. I know this is not a kingpin because the green is not neon green and the eyes are not perfectly round

If it doesn't have a green rim it is not a watermelon. You are correct about it not being kingpen i visit wwc often and seen that one in store. If it did not have a name when you bought it, it may not be a named chalice. It is a well grown one though. A nice addition to any tank.

Sounds to me it was a wild collected piece, else maricultured. In that case, you are not going to be able to pin a fancy name on it, as it's truly it's own original.

I would agree watermelons tend to have a green rim.
