Hello all! I recently got this amazing coral from a member on here and they said it was a wellso. I looked at some pics of some and I’m not so sure. It doesn’t have lobes like the other wellsos, maybe it is a young one? Either way it is a gorgeous coral!! Just curious about what it is.

Same colors as mine, but way different shape.... does it ever “fold”?

No it doesn’t. I’m thinking could it be a scoly? It’s about 6-7 in and still only has one mouth

I’ll get a more updated pic tomorrow. Anyone else have an ID for this?

Looks like a trachyphyllia radiata, I can see a small fold developing.

Also, I thought the folds developed in the skeleton?? If it’s already 6 inches, wouldn’t it have folds by now? I have a trachy that is the same size and looks completely different shape wise

If I remember right wasn't wellsophyllia reclassified into Trachyphyllia? and now its T. geofferi and T. radiata?

They all grow differently, it's possible it could be geoffroyi. Definitely trachyphyllia. Unless something changed, welsophyllia was classified as trachyphyllia.
beat me to it

Oh! Thanks! I never knew that! Very interesting
