Hi all,

We picked up a combo rock a few months back. Today when I moved it I found this guy under another coral. Could this be aiptasia? Sorry about the picture quality

Thanks

yes it is.
If there is one, there will be more. Especially if you disturb it inside you tank since it will release spores and more will spread.
Don't let people tell you it's the end of the world.
Sure they look awful and I hate them when my tank got too many.
Yes the will irritate (sting) nearby corals like Zoa, Palys, etc.
I used Aptasia-X to zap the big ones you can see and reach. They eat the stuff and implode.
Then I got a copperband butterfly to rid the tank completely of the tiny ones that you can't zap.
Another option is a peppermint shrimp.

I tend to think the spore thing is a myth - I believe related animals reproduce both sexually (sperm and egg) and asexually (foot laceration) - since coral spawning requires so many right conditions to happen I'd assume that all E. pallida reproduces in your tank asexually via ripping themselves apart like a discosoma anemone would do

Thanks everyone,

Its a small rock that I can remove from the tank.
I was thinking I could take it out and try to break the rock apart and see if I can separate the small leather and zoas from the aiptasia.
Then maybe take a small scrub brush and clean the rock that the leather and zoas are on, go through 2 rinses of fresh saltwater then back in the DT.
I would dump the rest of the rock.

Would this just spread it even if its outside the tank?

If you get the rock out hydrogen peroxide will kill them. I also spot treat with Aiptasia-X in tank. Usually take a few treatments to kill them. The main thing with these guys is be diligent.
I havent tried a shrimp. I have a Melanurus Wrasse that I think munch shrimp.
