This just recently popped up. If this is aiptasia is there anything else besides peppermint shrimp that could eliminate them? I have a flame hawkfish that has already started sucking snails out of the shell. I'm sure he will make quick meals out of shrimp...

1st off, welcome to R2R!! You'll like it here.
2nd. Kinda the wrong color for aptasia. Any way you can get a better pic? Not that that one is horrible, just need a second to be sure yay or nay.

Lastly, I have kind of a soapbox position on peppermints. I hate them.. that is a minor understatement..
As for aptasia eradication, Copperband butterflies, although not really for an inexperienced fish keeper , work great. Also Berghia nudibranch work well. There is also Aptasia-x which works moderately well.

I have one on a recent frag purchase. I'm reading you can use a syringe, available from your local pharmacy, and inject the nem with lemon juice.

I’m pretty sure that is Aiptasia.... even if not... why take the chance... get it outta there.

Hmmm never seen one with that coloration but that may be due to the light hitting it on a certain angle. I would treat it as aptasia and the aptasia-x would work along with the lemon juice as mentioned above. Do you have more in the tank?

IMHO that's an aiptasia.

Do a search here and you'll find lots of ways to get rid of them. The Copper Banded Butterfly is the worst idea for a less than expert reefer. They aren't cheap, they want live and small food and they are slow eaters. So even slightly more aggressive fish will get all the food. I'd bet 90% of them that get bought, end up dying of starvation.

Since you only have the one (for now) consider one of the already prepared fluids that come with a syringe and just kill it. It's pretty easy if you only have a few. But they reproduce quickly and become a big problem that will require bigger solutions!

Good luck.
