So I was putting my blue lights on and I noticed this on the rock where my leather coral is. The picture may be tough to see but it’s in a awkward spot. I cannot tell if this is Aiptasia or a feather duster. If it is Aiptasia is their a quick way to kill this one little piece without it spreading. Note: When I go by it. It retracts really quickly and then comes back out again.

Hard to tell from pic but looks like FD to me. Aiptasia are translucent beige/ brown and typically don’t retract if you walk by.

Whatever it is, it also shows color under the blue light just like the corals do I am not sure if feather duster do that under a blue light.

Hmm, no, typically a FD wouldn’t. Is it in a tube like structure or just attached to the rock. Could also be a hydroid.

It is in a tube like structure but very thin. I just started reading up on hydroids and googled pictures and they look very similar to what I have on the rock. I just have to cross check if they are a fluorescent yellow under blue light and if they retract.

So tube rules out Aiptasia. Either FD or hydroid. Keep the FD, get rid if a hydroid.

Long nose pliers. Break off the tube and chuck. Or superglue the end of the tube shut. I like the former. Instant gratification. :)
I am going in LOL. Thank you for the help

To kill hydroid. . . Either place a dab of gel superglue over them OR siply starve them. They favor brine shrimp. Direct water flow towards them, not at them and it will prevent food from reaching them.
