Is this algae coloration good???

Increase flow and lower feeding, siphon out as much as you can, Ro/di water has nothing to do with it... I don't use ro/di all the time and iv had small outbreaks but its easly gone once you siphon/increase flow/ reduce feeding.

Okay. I see there's a little disagreement. First off, let's call it Red Slime Algae because that's what it is. Red Slime algae is actually Oscillatoria. Okay, yes it is a genus in the phylum of Cyanobacterium, but that's like only describing a leopard as a mammal. There are only 35 phyla in the entire animal kingdom. True Cyanobacteria or Blue-green Algae is green. Oscillatoria is not a diatom. It needs nutrients and photosynthesis to survive. I don't think silicates have any impact of Oscillatoria. 99% of the time you will see Red Slime Algae growing in low flow areas. That's also where detritus collects. Oscillatoria will help you to clean your tank. Syphon it out when it is in full bloom, about two-thirds through your light cycle. You'll notice it looks like there's isn't quite as much of it right before lights out, that's because it is reproducing at that time. And then in the morning before lights on there won't be very much of it, that's because it is photosynthetic. When you syphon it out you'll notice that it grows over a light gray dust - detritus. So, by syphoning it out you're removing it and the detritus.

It's probably not that easy. Syphon it out when it's in full bloom. Keep at it, you'll also be cleaning out detritus and making a small water change at the same time, which reduces nutrients. Keep at it and in maybe three weeks you'll be successful and have a clean tank you'll be proud of. A 3/8" hard tube inserted into half inch tubing works great. Lot's of suction and less water. Do it with small water changes every day or two.

As you will notice it comes off very easy. Any movement and it slimes off. The worst thing you can do is take a turkey baster and blow it around, that only spreads it. I was trying to be nice through all of this, but the truth is having Red Slime Algae means you have excess detritus. You really need to concentrate on removing the detritus in your tank. The Red Slime Algae will actually help you to do this. Also, when you syphon it out in full bloom you are also ridding your tank of the nutrients it has consumed. A good way is how I've described it. Most of the time people get Red Slime Algae is after an algae die off. The vicious cycle as I call it, dead algae = detritus = more algae.

No need to be nice I want what's best for my tank and its inhabitants. This is a learning process

It's just frustrating because I can't seem to dial this thing down

It had me at my wits end one time. I installed a GFO reactor and it killed the algae and then, BAM, a terrible case of Red Slime Algae. I beat it, so can you. It takes about three weeks of diligently keeping your tank clean.

What did you do to beat it?

I already told you in the posts. Syphon it out. You'll end of with a nice clean tank you'll be proud of.

Oh my, that's beautiful! It'll come back, just keep doing that and you'll reduce the excess nutrients in your tank in no time.
