So I've had a SeaHare for the last few weeks and he has been all over my tank doing his job. I come home today and I noticed both my shrimp all over the back of the hare. They didn't seem to be picking at him but when I came back to check on the tank later I noticed the hare hadn't moved at all and it seems like his head is gone?? I don't know much about them but can they retract their head in (sorta like coral retracting) or did he lose his head today to the shrimp or my emerald crab? I left him in the tank right now and going to watch and see if it moves. I'm new to reefing and wanted to reach out to those with more experience on this.

Pic on the left is head (headless?) on and the pic on the right is looking from over the top, his head should be on the left?

He looks somewhat normal to me.

If you don’t have a lot of live algae for him to eat, definitely rehome him. I tried to keep a sea hare healthy on algae I grew in my refugium and nori and it didn’t work. They eat so much.

He was moved from the spot I had him in earlier on the sand bed but the shrimp have been crawling all over him. Now I'm doubting if they moved him or he moved himself? I'm gonna place him up on the rocks tonight before bed and see where he is at tomorrow. Thanks for your followup so far everyone

Sounds like a plan. Let us know how he is doing in the morning.

If you are in the burbs and need some extra hair algae, let me know :D hah

I think its a goner. Hadn't moved since last night and my snails and shrimp were all over it this morning. If after work tonight it is in same spot I think he'll get a proper and fitting burial
