About a month ago, my Green Tip LTA got sick. I moved him to a hospital tank and treated him with Cipro. Most of his tentacles fell off in the hospital tank. He started to get better and his remaining tentacles started to look good. Then about a week later, the remaining tentacles fell off or got tiny. I moved him back to the reef tank and what remains of his tentacles are like little neon green nubs (see pic). My tank is 15 months old, water parameters are good and stable for a reef tank.

He is eating but I have to put the shrimp right on his mouth so he can consume it. Looks as if he is completely bleached (see pick). Will I have to continue feeding him? Can he recover. Will he starve if I stop feeding him? Has anyone recovered a nem from this state?

I will be doing some weekly travel in the near future and am concerned if I am not here for a week to feed him, he will die. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

I’ve never fed my anemone. It does encourage growth and splitting. But it’s not necessary. If your lights are good enough it’ll be fine with that. Feeding them when they are stressed can be more fatal for them, I’d find out what the issue is first before you try to feed it back to life.

For the first time ever, the nem has crawled up and wedged his foot into the rockwork. He always stayed in the sand next to the rocks. Since he bleached out and lost his tentacles, and while he was still somewhat upright in the sand, I could sit a piece of food on his mouth and would suck it in. Now I have no chance of feeding him in the position he's put himself (see pic below). But he will be OK for a while? Now that he is bleached and doesn't have tentacles, the nem should still be OK without feeding for an extended period?

Seemed the nem had an infection. I ran the nem through the Cipro treatment and then moved it back to the main tank when it started eating again.

I have high-quality lighting. Even if the nem bleached, it should still be fine?

I've seen BTAs come back from looking like this. Best thing you can do is feed once a week and keep your water stable. Hopefully the little dude makes it!
Unfortunately, at its current mounted angle, food will not remain in the "cup" area.
