Is it aptasia? It’s in my sump- what will eat it or kill it?

Kill it quickly before it makes it to your display

Yes it is.
Your DOOMED DOOMED I tell you

Only a Nuclear strike will fix the issue. ;Dead

Well a File fish in the sump will help.
Peppermint shrimp might.
Nudibranch (Expensive way to go)
Then there are the chemicals
Joes Juice, Aptasia-X, Lemmon Juice.

I’ll get on it! Out of curiosity, does a file fish eat a regular diet if there’s no more aptasia?

No(see K7BMG’s message). Take it out afterwards(after it’s done eating it all) and trade it into your lfs. Don’t put it in your DT, it’ll pick at your corals if there isn’t aiptasia.

Yes it can and will eat other foods.
But it will go after other corals.

Make sure you turn off all flow and disconnect the plumbing to the DT.
Pull out the sump and clean it with bleach.

I know this sounds harsh but you honestly are at war now.
Those lil buggers will spit out spores and then double their population.
So don't just wipe them away thinking you got rid of them.
Isolate and contain the ones and the spores they will produce in the sump.

Oh man. I removed the 3 in the sump. I just spent about 3 hours cleaning. Ill throw a peppermint shrimp in the sump as well and see. I havent seen anymore anywhere and have a peppermint in the main display too.

they aren't as bad unless you use joe's juice which makes the spread like crazy.

I have heard the same about most products.
Its the aplication done wrong.
I used Aptaisa X and as soon as it touched the head the darn thing spit out spores before it imploded.

this fish is pretty unreliable at controlling aiptasia in my experience. I've had three over the years and none of them ate aiptasia. They ate my scoly, acans and I think a torch. Awful fish

They have to be the aptasia eating file fish which are beasts. Other filefish don't touch

You see, the question is not how should you remove it. The question is how did it get there. It must be in your display system then swim all the way to sump. So, got to check most of the rock and coral and remove as much as you can quickly.

Agree, I was just curious, I dont get fish for specific purposes anymore (unless it was a fish I wanted anyway) after attempts to control gha left me with with a tang and a rabbit fish that dont touch algae. lol. I dont mind buying a cheap peppermint shrimp for the sump but IMO trusting a fish to do the job you want usually just means you end up with an extra fish and the same problem. lol

I cannot find any in my Display tank or anywhere else in the sump so either it came in on a dipped coral frag from a few months ago and conditions havent been suitable for much growth or its been there longer and the shrimp in the display are keeping any new ones under control? Idk. I only have a coral banded shrimp and a scarlet and a skunk cleaner in the display. The lfs was closed so ill have to grab a couple peppermint tomorrow.
