my yellow watchman goby has a bristle worm in his mouth. he has his mouth open and I can see it moving around. I am afraid for two reasons. one is the bristles the other is it acts as its intentional. By this when ever the worm crawls to his lips and appears to be coming out the goby "hiccups" and sucks him back it. Could he be ussing the worm to treat an internal ailment or parasite? This is just strange to me.

Ive seen most of my tank inhabitants eat bristle worms at some point. My sexy shrimp are the biggest eaters of these things and when these shrimp catch one, the worms always spin all wierd until they are dead. From what you describe, it sounds like the goby just bit off more than he can chew. Its normal for fish to spit out food several times before eating, as they breathe through their gils and don't choke from a throat full of food. if i were you, id sit back and enjoy the show.

Thx everyone. after a few minutes the worm is gone. swallowed or released? he is going after sand again. Awesome learning event though.
