My very first tank crashed so I decided to remove some if the rock restricting flow. I have noticed this all over the rock now. Any idea what it is and if it is bad.

I have some reef saver that is new. If I take this rock out and put new in will it just infest the rock again?

Really? That seems excessive. Hydroids tend to die out on their own as tanks become more established.
Not so. My 3 year old jbj45 has hydroids. They’re annoying as HELL! I can’t throw the rock away because it is covered I’d zoas. And they don’t go away. They keep coming back. I’ve done everything. Ulns for 6 months, torching then, boiling water, super glue, reef putty. They’re my arch nemesis lol

I would suggest manual removal with a sharp blade in a seperate bucket of saltwater. You can also cover them in a thick kalk paste.

I really am at a good point to just do a reset of the tank. Is there anything special I would need to do to the actual tank itself to prevent them from returning? Can I reuse the rock if I start it over with a bleach bath?

Depending how old the rock is bleaching it sounds excessive with all that good bacteria on it. Some have had success by spot treating with peroxide. Outside of the tank itself.

It doesn't actually look like they're harming your zoa colonies in any way though.

I mean, maybe I'm wrong, but trashing a rock just because you don't like something growing on it is kinda like pouring salt across your entire yard to kill a few weeds.

They are harming the zoas. It’s more annoying in person.
