Hello so my candy cane hasn’t been looking good lately. Hermits were seen crawling all over it the other day. It’s not looking good but it did eat today so that’s a plus. I just hope it’s not brown jelly disease.

Here’s two different pics

I’m leaning more towards dinos... can I see a full shot of your tank and/or any spots with algae?

I am leaning toward dinos as well, looks like a very new tank judging by the rocks

This doesn't appear to be "brown jelly disease" but more like Dinoflagellates as others have said. A full tank shot as well as some other information will be helpful. How long as the system been running, it also looks like you started with dry rock and sand correct?

I agree with above, looks like Dino’s, brown jelly is kinda like a brown jello covering the frag.

Here is a few examples of how dinos look... lol been battling them for 2 months but luckily I got the easy kind and I’m beating it.

Tank is about 7 weeks old.

I didn't think Dino’s due to having a nitrate and phosphate reading.

Tank parameters
pH 8
Ammo 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 2-5ppm
Phos .03 ppm
Temp 77-78
Alk 10.7
Calc 480
Mag 1320

Must recently full tank shot (there’s also a rock flower nem and rainbow acan in there now)

Hmmm tank is pretty new have you tried using a turkey baster to get rid of the brown stuff?

I can blow it off and it comes back in a few days. Hermit crabs are slowly working on it as well but they haven’t touched the candy cane since I seen them a while ago before this popped up.

I went in with turkey baster and it came off and reveled some dead skeleton. Little hard to see but it’s clearly white dead skeleton.

I don’t think it’s brown jelly. BJD usually melts the tissue into brown junk and there isn’t any good tissue under it. It also melts the tissue fast. The size of that coral BJD would kill all that tissue in 1 day.

I think your tank is just too young to support coral yet. At this point your tank needs to work through the ugly phases and establish a balance. It’s will be worth it to wait a bit before putting more coral in there.
