Hello all,

Just received this torch two days ago. It has not really opened much since I got it. This morning I woke up and noticed this on one of the heads.

I dipped this morning and cleaned what was on it. Here are pictures I just took...it has only come out about that much in the picture not fully open at all.

I may be wrong. But to me that looks like those heads are dead or dying and the skeleton is showing through.
Agreed, looks like it is dying. I don't see any brown jelly. What are the parameters of the tank and are they stable? The tank appear very young from the photo's. My guess would be an issue with parameters not being stable.

It looks like it is dying, what you're seeing is necrosis from the dying tentacles. BGD will typically coat the entire head... You can try dipping the coral in iodine but from the looks of it, I don't know if it can be saved. I'd bring it back to where you got it doesn't seem like you purchased a healthy piece.

sorry i agree, :(

can you point out what you mean by necrosis in the picture. Just for my own education. Thank you!

The two head where there are not really any tentacles, just white kind of ribs. That is the skeleton of the coral. The tissue is all to mostly gone.

Thank you!

should I remove it ASAP, I cant make it back to lfs till tomorrow. Is it possible with it dying will it effect anything else living in tank?

I don't think it will hurt anything. And one of the three heads still looks alive. Not in great shape but still alive. But hopefully someone with more experience will chime in.

When you say, "cleaned what was on it" was it the stuff you removed like?

It looked like algae on some of the “ribs”
I agree with everyone else- that "algae" was likely the tissue that was adherent to the skeleton of the tissue. Those two heads are dying and have a pretty poor prognosis. You may be able to save the third head, but to me, this doesn't look like BJD (thankfully). Therefore, I would keep the coral in the tank and focus on stability, flow, and parameters (assuming you're keeping the piece). I don't know enough about your tank to know if the coral died as a consequence of your tank or whether you were sold a dying piece, but in any event, I'm sorry for your loss!

all i can add ,this coral has been on the slide longer than a few days, best wishes in future inspect corals well before buying
