Hey everyone. Overnight I noticed our biggest frogspawn has lost a head and looks like BJD. Do I need to remove this one? This sucks as it was our favorite frog

It's unfortunately too blurry to really tell, but if you're able to gently remove the frag - give it the smell test. If it reeks to high Heaven - it's BJD and you need to address it ASAP.

I'm assuming I'll have to ditch the entire frogs pawn as I don't have any cutting tools

Unless someone else can give you a positive identification (I can't tell from the image, sorry). If it looks puss-like, slimy and pink - there's a good chance it's BJD.

While pics are very fuzzy and need white lighting to clearly see but appears to be polyp bailout versus BJD and and often due to excessive flow or low calcium if below 380-400
With this coral- you must avoid the extremes- Extreme water flow and extreme light which can weaken them

Yeah its white flesh VS any brown on the coral.

I have 2 others near it and they're growing like crazy. This coral hobby is so frustrating at times!

OK nevermind. With the blues off, it is more brown. Remove this entire coral you guys think?

I would just leave it. Unless you know the problem you won't fix it by messing with it. Corals are quite resilient if you continue to provide them a healthy environment.

edit: this was before the last pic, if you think it's obvious BJD then sure pitch it. Or try to rescue what's left if you can.

Yep - bailout. Give it a dip or preferably a lugols iodine dip and set at mid tank under moderate light and water flow

I have had great success with Cipro treatments by taking it out of tank. Thoroughly cleaning it and then putting it in Tupperware(clamped to tank to keep temp stable). Then I do Cipro treatments in the Tupperware for a few days(changing water and adding more Cipro twice daily. It won't save the current head, but it has a chance of saving the rest

I agree with above recommendations. Diseased heads can be fragged off to save the coral. Also note that BJD develops when corals are stressed and their immune systems collapse thus allowing BJD to get in. This typically means something is significantly off in your parameters causing your corals stress resulting in BJD.

Parameters don't target one coral.

Smell test didn't have anything bad. Any specifics on fragging a frog?
If it's branching then just cut the branches. Lower the better to avoid damaging more flesh than necessary. If it's a wall shape, then you might need a bandsaw. But I think bone cutters would do OK there too just be careful. Leave some space between the edge of the death and the cut.

I will say we've had the oddest thing of only losing 1 or 2 corals at a time, and others growing like mad in the same tank.

I did skip doing a water change for nearly 3 weeks and I'm wondering if my levels got off then. Family has been sick, work has been crazy, and we haven't been home a lot so I haven't tested lately. Hoping getting back started to once a week or every other week will help.
