I've been trying to figure out what type of algae this is. Today I found some pictures of bryopsis. I had never heard of this before and maybe this is what I have been dealing with. The algae doesn't seem to grow any longer than what is in the picture. It just stays the really short. It also does not come off of rock very easily. It is pretty tough to pull off.

My first attempt at corals 8-9 months ago was going great and a couple of months ago it took a bad turn for the worse and I think its this stuff causing it.

Doesn't look like it, especially if that's all the growth it gets. Bryopsis will grow fairly quick and be a longer (several inches) fern like algae. It doesn't take long for it to show that type of structure.

Usually algae alone doesn't kill corals until it completely smothers them. That doesn't appear to be the case in the photo at least. Do you know your parameters? What happened to your corals? Did they die fast/slow or just look bad?

I have 2 zoas, 1 mushroom, a chalice, and 1 GSP. The GSP has always been fine.

First my rasta zoa wouldnt open. I found out my swing arm was reading low and my actual salinity was around 1.028 roughly. I got it taken care of and my refractometer is around 1.024 now. It started to open but never fully opened like it was for the first few months.

Then i accidentally overdosed calc to around the 600ppm range. Didnt notice any bad affects so i left it alone and didnt do my normal 12% weekly WC. After 2 weeks of the i noticed my other zoa and mushroom were starting to shrink. The zoa started loosing its color and the mushroom started to bleach. The chalice started to turn brown, but i think it was just getting covered in algae. I tried to brush it off and some came off but the chalice still stayed brown. I started doing 25% WC every week. With maybe a very slight improvement. Its been a couple of months of my parameters being really good and they arent bouncing back. The chalice seems to have stopped growing but isnt getting taken over by the brown color anymore. Meanwhile ive been constantly dealing with all different types of algae, trying to start a fuge ect.

My water test have been good. But i have multiple issues that im trying to fix simotaneously. I just dont have the experience to know what is causing this.
