The second picture appears they do look fern like, you can probably confirm. They are a lot finer than what I had a year ago but mine were on a rock and I may only noticed them when they were larger. If you agree, from what you see, that they are fern like then buy Reef Flux and use as directed. In about 3 days they will begin to turn pale then a light grey before disappearing. Good luck!

I agree but I have found that with fluconazole the dose is too high. I dose at a 1/4 of recommended and seems to work as good.

is reef flux reef safe?

is reef flux reef safe?
I have used it plenty in reef tanks. Is it killing bacteria and other life? I am sure it does but the last times I used ReefRX I did a less than half recommended dose and it worked great.

is reef flux reef safe?
Yes, no adverse reactions to my fish, inverts, corals ( softies, lps and sps). Reef Flux is not an algaecide, it is an antifungal and interferes with the cell wall integrity of the bryopsis.

This is what bryopsis looked like in my tank. The big 'frond' in the pic is about 3/4 inch long from rock to tip. It tended to grow in dense isolated clumps rather than spreading out evenly. Maybe you have more of a branching turf algae if it's spreading in an even mat?

One other thing. Will this kill my chaeto?

Yes, I'm pretty sure it will kill your chaeto. Your should pull it out and keep it offline if you choose to use Reef Flux (fluconazole).

I would advocate for a non chemical approach, my personal take is that you don't have an algae problem, you have a herbivore problem. A properly sized and diversified Clean Up Crew should be the first line of defense. For Bryopsis (if that is what you have), I recommend pincushion or tuxedo urchins.

I had a serious problem with Bryopsis (and other algae), mostly due to neglect. I worked my way out with proper husbandry, a healthy CUC and stable parameters so corals could win out over algae. The included pictures tell the story.

Good info in this video:

I think it is killing my tank, i am now doing a 30% water chance

I moved my soft corals into my qt tank and they bounced rack almost rightaway. sps and montis look like thet shed skin and will most likely die. im doing 100% water change over next few days. I think i might have overdosed it because where i probably shopuld have put less tin there. i heard most these issue are from overdosing

Hey so my tank crashed and almost everything is dead. I pulled out whatever softies i can and put into my qt tank but for the most part all sps and montis are dead.
the zoas and mushrooms and cloves that are all grown on the rocks are closed hp and wont reopen. I can nOt move them because they are too big to fit in qt

the fish are ok but all inverts are dead aswell. Crabs and lil brittle stars

What steps do i do now to restart the tank to allow me to transfer back? I send out an icp test tomorrow to hopefully get more insite on what happeded but i think i overdosed the tank due to not taking into consideration the water displaced by the rocks.
i started doing waterchanges over past 2 days i did about 50% change and i also added a small bottle of turbostart to make sure the good bacteria is still in there.
Please help

I’m so sorry to hear. I just recently used reef flux on my aquarium and had no ill effects. But I’ve read stories like yours before - where reef flux has supposedly caused a crash. I’m super curious as to why it works really well in some tanks and not in others.

With respect to your current situation, I would salvage as much as you can. If the zoa’s are on their way out and attached to the rock I would toss the rock. Keep as much rock as you can and do a 100% water change essentially restarting your tank. Run activated carbon for two weeks to capture any residual toxins, medication, etc. and place the items from your QT back into your tank.

Once again, I am so sorry to hear about your situation and wish you nothing but the best.
