Hey guys,

Im new here but not new to Fish keeping. Today i was moving Furniture to make way for xmas decorations with the wife, I was moving a glass table and knocked it into the corner of the tank (like the dummy i am), The chip does not go all the way through to the silicone and has not touched it at all. Its a 142L Ciano tank.

Here are some before and after pics, The after pics are after I layered the chip area with Superglue then waited for it to dry and covered over with Aquarium Silicon sealant.

I personally would use it. As long as there are no cracks radiating from the chip, I think a tank that size would be fine. I probably would look at it from time to time to see if anything changes.

It really does look okay to me. But just remember, I was putting myself in your shoes. That's what I would do.

Well I have a different opinion..

If I were you, I would get a new tank. Some years ago I had an Oceanic 30 gal Cube tank
that got a chip exactly like that. I stressed over it and I sent photos to Robert Fenner (The
Conscientious Marine Aquaris Book and runs wetwebmedia.com) This guy wrote what allot
of people call the bible of the saltwater aquarium hobby and has been in this for 40 years.
Anyway I asked him his advice and he told me it wasn't worth the risk. What you don't see
in that chip is the 1000s of tiny micro cracks and it may be ok for a day, month, year.. and
one day when its had enough stress from the water pressure and bam.. a giant crack and your
water is on the floor. So I upgraded to a 45 gal cube and was happy I did. I sold the 30 gal
cube to a person who wanted it for reptiles and wasnt putting water in it.

But this is just what I did...

Too much drama, it is fine.

I would use it judging by the thickness of the glass panels. I would’t use it If it were a smaller tank with thinner glass, as the panels have more flex to them and are more susceptible to blow outs from chips like this. Less flex = more load spread out over the edges.

Too Much Drama?? By giving my opinion and sharing what I did in that situation.

I'm sorry but in my situation I didn't want to take a chance on the tank possibly
blowing out and me losing all my fish and corals.. So I get slammed, cause I'm telling
the person to err on the side of caution like I did! .....

5 years later and it is still going strong :) I just covered the outside of the chip with sealant and super glue :)
