Just received the clam this morning. It is the first time I am having a Clam.

When I open the Derasa Clam bag, it was really stinky like rotten/dead fish, but I thought it was just like something the clam discharged during the travel, because sometimes fish bags has the same smell.

After I did acclimation and put it into tank, 2 of my nassarius snails went into clam immediately. First thought was something attached on the clam’s shell maybe attracting them but the snail just dive into clam’s fresh meat, and I also noticed that part of mantle is falling off the shell.

I called the online store and they suggested me to keep the clam in the tank for a day because from the images the clam looks good to them. However, after I finish the call and take another look at my tank, all the inverts are trying to take a piece of the clam.

I just want to get some advices from you guys and if it is dead I want to remove it from the tank ASAP.

Please help, thank you!

I’m not familiar with clams but I think @OrionN has a few and may be able to tell. Good luck, I hope it pulls through for you!

I would agree with either dead or almost dead.
I have 6 clams including Dersa, and except for shell cleaning, my shrimps, snails have never touched in more than 3 years.

Yeah, guess I have to remove it now. Btw, nice tank

Sometime if you can protect it from the scavenger it may recover. That clam looks like it was healthy with recent growth so what ever happened in transit stress him out greatly. Keep scavenger from him and ther is a small possibility that he may recover.

Still leave it in my frag tank, I will pick it up and smell tomorrow, if it is decay smell, guess that's it. Right now, it smells fresh...

If you have some phytoplankton around dose some of it to the frag tank. Small clams love it. If it reacts to it and starts pumping more water to consume it the clam has a higher chance of recovering.
