Tank is 2ish months old and I dosed Purple Helix Coraline Algae and am wondering if I’m starting to see Coraline growth or if this is another algae. Any thoughts? It’s a red algae in some spots and purple-ish in other areas.

What kind of lights are you running. I run LEDs and my coralline is an looks like cynao. The test is to see if comes off with a toothbrush. If it stays after a light brushing you have red coraline;)

Running an AI Prime HD. I’ll try the toothbrush now.

It came off without any pressure so I’m guessing cyano then.
Yes, cyano. Check you phosphates before you do anything else with a good test kit.

Aw,
Typically coralline starts as small spots and grows slowly over time. Those spots seem too big to have grown that much in 2 months.
not sure I can agree with that, my tank has been running since may and I already have coralline all over.

Coralline all over in a month? You may be the next key speaker at MACNA. That’s something every reefer wishes to achieve. Please share your secrets.

I had no idea, I am suprised myself! I even had to ask a guy who works at the lfs in my town and confirmed it.

The only way to have coraline in a month would have to be imported from a super established reef tank and or the ocean! Good things don't happen over night. Patience is key and I know we all see really sweet reef tanks but the key is time and patience! Happy reefing :)

I agree. That does not look like coralline. Coralline starts as all dots and grows overtime. It will build itself much in the same fashion as a coral skeleton. Takes time.
