I'm wondering what this is? I would think coralline but the convergent lines make it look like it has a skeletal structure...I haven't seen this before in an algae. Any ideas? It's a hitch-hiker that has started growing pretty quickly..pretty cool looking I think

I agree that a sharper image would be more helpful. I have many Discosoma that are similarly shaped and colored and also grow very fast. The structure and variegated lines coming from the center resemble a corallimorphian more than coralline in my opinion.

The lines are what had me stumped! Thanks!

Yeah those are nice pictures!
I'll see if I can get a better shot of it! Are you using the iPhone app or did you download a photo app..just curious? I'm using the standard 5c app I've always had a hard time getting good tank shots. Could easily be me not the phone.

I think it looks like Actinodiscus ferrugatus.

Are the edges slightly frayed or dimpled? Is it in low flow/low light? Does it move or pulse?

You could see if it responds to either a change in flow or target feeding plankton.

It's in med light and flow..edges are ruffled, I haven't tried target feeding. I haven't noticed any pulsing or movement either, seems pretty much stationary.

Won't lie the 5c isn't going to take the pics I have posted. It's an 8mp which isn't bad but the way the color capture is designed in the aperture your shots will be a bit lower in quality. The video was shot in 4K with a 6s+. Now what I can advise is to try and always shoot straight on. Think of the glass as another lens your adding, tilting the phone will through off image quality. Also as with any device that uses digital zoom try not to zoom if possible, you'll get better results if take a non zoomed picture and crop to fit desired subject matter. Fixed focus also is your friend. When taking a picture press and hold on the desired subject you focus box will bounce and lock to the position so even if you move the phone focus point stays fixed. I also use the tank glass as a stabilizer(press the phone to the glass flat) this helps to reduce distance between phone lens and tank glass (which once again acts as a Len) lowering image distortion and keeping the phone from moving when taking the shot. These were all shot using the default camera app on the iPhone. Hope that helps.
