Hello! New reefer here with about a 9 week old tank. I put in some test corals a few weeks back and I noticed a red bacteria or algea (is this Cyano?) on a Zoa frag. It's only on the Zoa and and no where else in my tank (other coral , rock, or sand). Is there anything I can do to get rid of it / save the zoa? My nitrate levels are less than 5ppm but unable to provide phosphate level (will pick up a kit asap) Thanks in advanced.

Thanks I'll give that a shot

Yes, it is cyano. You can just use a turkey Baster and blow the cyano off while it is outside the tank. Make sure that the frag is in high flow when you put it back in the tank.

Your tank is new and will get these in the process of maturing. In an year, the tank should stabilize. Meanwhile, keep the regimen of managing the water quality(through one of the myriad ways)...

Turn off lights, manually increase flow, you can dos 3% peroxide at 1 ml per 10g to help kill it. If it gets out of control Chemiclean is a nuke you can use.
