75g DT about 3 months post-cycle... once I turned on the lights, the rocks and sand turned green. I've added a nice CUC that are now making some headway in the clean up! I run the blue lights quite a bit, but cut the white lights down to about 25% for only a couple hours. Previously, people advised to ride out the new tank uglies, so only trying to control with cleaning and CUC. But, this new algae has hit my DT sand bed (see video). I think this is cyano...am I correct in this thinking?

Next question... obviously, what should I do about it? Its already in my refug and causing my chaeto to now recede! Will simple vacuuming my sand bed pull this out of the DT? Just got a Python vacuum yesterday...itching to put it to use!

Ammonia:
Nitrates: 10
Phosphates: 0 (Hanna LR Phosphate)
Temp: 78.8 F
pH: 8.15
SG: 1.025

CUC: Cerith (# ??), Dwarf Ceriths (# ??), Nerite (5-10), Astraea Turbo (12-14), Astraea Ninja Stars (3-5), Nassarious (10-12).

What are you feeding?

And yea, start vacuuming.

If you’re not already , run some carbon

Feeding Piscine Energetics PE Pellets alternating with frozen. I manually feed one time a day and try to give in spurts so I can control to minimize what doesn't get eaten...but obviously some makes it to the sandbed.

I'll vacuum it tonight! I have some BRS .8 Rox that I will start tonight as well. How much carbon and how often do you have to change it out?

I’d stop the pellets and do a wait and see.
That stuff is weird.

I’d use 1/2 less than reccomded and change it next week.

What kind of frozen is it?

Not feeding any coral food or aminos ?

+1 ^^^^ yeah, the darn stuff will kill off your chaeto by out competing it for nutrients. You can try to clean the chaeto in a bucket of fresh tank temp matching salinity saltwater. But you got to be rough with it and toss ruthlessly what can't be cleaned.

I don't know what kind of frozen... the package ripped and i had to repackage into a ziplock bag. Someone from my local reef club have it to me to get started. You recommend any particular brand or type? The Nessarious snails like the frozen when it gets to the sand, so I'll start going that route overt the pellets. I was soaking the pellets and frozen in Vitamarin-M.

I don't have any corals in the DT yet. I have a mushroom (2) and a red magician paly in the coral DT... just giving them a piece of the pellets or frozen every so often. But nor that tank is getting some green as well.

Yes, it about wiped out my chaeto when it first hit my refug walls... then scraped it off and the chaeto grew from quarter size to melon size...now receding again.

I'm sure i have some phosphates... but the Hanna Phosphate checker is showing zero. I should have gotten three ULR Hanna Phosphorous checker, I guess.

Idoc,
I have the ULR checker and my new batch of powders test at zero phosphates too.

Just wanting you to know that your not the only one and there is now way that my reef dropped from .03ppm to zero over night.

In my case it's just an off batch of the Hanna powder.

I was wondering as well if it was the batch of reagents... mine is a new batch as well. Do you think I should sell my LR checker and get the ULR checker instead?

I've heard they are both very good and I've only owned the ULR checker out of the two.

Here's a BRS video if you have not seen it.
